My dh read this right before we went on our last trip, so we didn't have time to try it. I'm putting the salt in as soon as i get off of the computer so it will be ready for the 4th. I'll post again if it works. I'm hoping that we'll be able to take some type of tofutti bar for ds, as he rarely gets a frozen treat when we're out and about.

We've never had too much trouble with the cooler- just keep adding ice. We've known of other people who've had food spoil because they didn't have enough ice. We don't put a lot of drinks in our cooler, though, unless it's water bottles that we've drained a bit from before freezing. Looking forward to this working.

So??? did it work?? a milk jug takes up a lot of space in a cooler but if it works, we might try it! We usually bring our mini fridge with us b/c we spent over 100.00 one time on ice while we were at Hunting Island for the week.

Having owned four popups over the years, I am very familiar with the tasks of keeping things cold and the expense of buying ice. I think the price of ice has doubled in the last two years. The gas-electric two door fridge with a separate freezer compartment in our 23' TT is capable of making much more ice than we need for daily use, the happy hour, and for the cooler we use for side trips. It also keeps food and beverages very cold. Since owning this trailer we have not had to buy any ice...Just another advantage of moving to the dark side..

Dry ice in the bottom of the cooler and 1/2 bag of ice. Then put your food in and the other 1/2 a bag of ice.

Wow makes sense! You use rock salt when making ice cream. You put salt on the road to lower the freezing point. I keep those square juice bottles for making ice for camping. Their shape is much more friendly. We will be heading to Hunting Island in a couple of weeks so I will put this to test.
